Telex were formed in 1978, just one a handful of synthpop pioneers at a time when electronic pop was regarded as novelty. Their debut album 'Looking For Saint Tropez' contains covers of Plastic Bertrand’s pop-punk “Ca Plane Pour Moi”, Bill Haley’s “Rock Around The Clock” and Sly & The Family Stone’s “Dance To The Music”. It also featured the worldwide hit “Moskow Diskow”. The band is made up of Dan Lacksman, Michel Moers and the late Marc Moulin.
In 1980 the band’s management asked them to enter the Eurovision Song Contest for Belgium which they jumped at, resolving either to come first or last. Unfortunately, Portugal came in at the last minute and awarded them 10 points which meant they came in 17th out of 19. Their entry was the cheerful "Eurovision” with deliberately banal lyrics about the contest itself.
