Angielski zespół Slowdive powstał w 1989 roku i składał się głównie z Nicka Chaplina (bas), Rachel Goswell (wokal, gitara), Christiana Savilla (gitara) i głównego kompozytora Neila Halsteada (wokal, gitara).
Souvlaki jest drugim studyjnym albumem Slowdive, wydanym pierwotnie w 1993 roku. Album zawiera wkłady syntezatora Briana Eno w „Sing” (którego był współautorem) i „Here She Comes”. Zespół nazwał album po skeczu w wykonaniu Jerky Boys - amerykańskiego duetu komediowego który nagrywał żarty telefoniczne.
