First Utterance to debiutancki album progresywnego zespołu folkowego Comus. Został wydany w 1971 roku, a singiel „Diana” został wydany jako singiel.
Album wyróżniał się unikalnym połączeniem progresywnego rocka, folku, psychodelii oraz elementów pogaństwa i makabry. Album opowiada piosenki o przemocy („Drip Drip”), gwałcie („Diana”, „Song to Comus”) i terapii szokiem insulinowym („The Prisoner”). Tematy te wyraźnie kontrastują z akustycznym brzmieniem płyty, gitarą, skrzypcami, fletem.
Okładka została narysowana długopisem przez Rogera Woottona, wokalistę i autora piosenek zespołu.
